Laura Thipphawong is a Canadian artist, writer, and historian, and has exhibited art and presented her research throughout several galleries and international academic forums. Laura made her way from small-town northern Ontario to Toronto to pursue a career in the arts, and now holds a medal and a Bachelor of Arts in Visual and Critical studies from OCAD University, and a Master of Arts in Art History from the University of Toronto. Her studio practice in oil painting and drawing is representative of her research on the complex narrative symbolism of the psyche in response to various social factors, with focus on sexuality, horror, folklore, and natural science.

What do you listen to when you work?
Industrial metal, 90s music because nothing will ever sound as good as the music you listened to as a teenager, bad movie podcasts
Describe the person your work appeals to in 3 words
Unconventional, passionate, imaginative
When did you start making art, and why?
I started teaching myself to paint with oils when I was twelve because I knew it was going to be the best way to express myself, and at the time felt like the only way I could express myself.
